The VIIRS scanning radiometer aboard the Suomi-NPP satelite measures fires from space daily.
Each animated frame represents 30 days of fires up to the displayed date. VIIRS detects a wide variety of fires, including wildfires, volcanoes, refineries, flares from oil and gas extraction, and swidden agriculture.
